USES:
TimberSaver can be
used as a preventative pre-treatment, or as a remedial control
agent to protect above-ground wood and wood products from damage
due to decay causing fungi (brown, white and wet rots), and wood-boring
insects including:
* Powderpost beetles (Lyctidae)
* Furniture beetles (Anobiidae)
* Old house borers, longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae)
* Subterranean termites (Reticulitermes, Coptolermes, Heterotermes)
* Dampwood termites (Zootermopsis)
* Drywood termites (Kalotermes, Incisitermes)
* Carptenter ants (Camponotus)
TimberSaver can be applied to wood products including logs, framing
lumber, siding, plywood and wood-foam composite structural components.
TimberSaver treated lumber is non-toxic and can be sawed, shaped,
glued and finished. TimberSaver will not corrode metal fasteners.
Treatment is permanent provided the wood is not exposed to moisture
or in contact with soil.
NOTE: Because TimberSaver is water soluble, exterior surfaces
or wood exposed to moisture must be protected wit a high quality
water repellent wood finish such as DEFY.
|
BENEFITS:
* Prevents fungal
decay
* Protects against wood-boring insects
* Remedial control of wood attacking organisms
* Provides long term protection
* Naturally occurring mineral salt
* Treated products are non-toxic to humans and animals
* Poses no significant risk to air, soil and water
* Will not corrode ferrous metal fasteners

DIRECTIONS
FOR USE:
CAUTION: TimberSaver solutions are toxic
to plants, so care must be taken to avoid spills and improper
disposal. It is a violation of Federal law to use this product
in a manner inconsistent with its labelling. |
|
APPLICATION:
TimberSaver may be
applied to wood surfaces by dip-diffusion, pressure treatment,
spraying, brushing, immersion or flooding. |
|
1.
DIP-DIFFUSION TREATMENT
PREPARATION OF SOLUTIONS:
To prepare solutions
described below, water should be added to the tank to about 80%
of the solution required. The temperature is then raised to the
specified level and the calculated amount of TimberSaver is gradually
added with agitation. The remaining water is then added and the
solution stirred for an additional 10 minutes to ensure that
TimberSaver is completely dissolved. The temperature of the solution
should be maintained during treatment. Upon cooling some TimberSaver
may crystallize out of solution, but will re-dissolve when the
solution is re-heated. In very cold weather, some heating or
insulation should be provided to prevent solidification in the
bottom of the treatment tank. The tank should be covered when
not in use to prevent contamination and water evaporation.
Dip freshly cut lumber in a tank containing a hot aqueous solution
of TimberSaver for 2 to 5 minutes. After dipping, to improve
penetration, the newly treated wood should be dead-tacked and
stored under a tarpaulin or black Visqueen to slow the drying
process and prevent wash-off. Diffusion of the wood preservative
into the interior of the wood will start immediately and will
require several weeks to thoroughly penetrate the lumber, depending
upon species and thickness of wood. The dip-diffusion method
of treatment can result in complete penetration throughout the
cross-sectional area of the treated lumber. |
2. PRESSURE TREATMENT
Pressure treatment must rigidly adhere to the current specifications
of Saver Systems and/or those of the American Wood Preserver's
Association (AWPA). |
3. SPRAYING, BRUSHING,
IMMERSING AND FLOODING
Application methods
described below will yield a minimum retention level of .24 lbs.
per cu. ft. of boric acid equivalent (BAE) in the outer 3/4"
of the treated wood. Diffusion of TimberSaver into wood begins
immediately and requires several weeks to complete. These treatments
may not kill preexisting insect larvae, and after maturation
adults may emerge from wood, but further infestations will be
prevented.

SURFACE/SOLUTION
PREPARATION:
SURFACE: Wood must be bare, free of dirt,
mold and mildew and wax and surface finishes. Remove all previous
coatings and finishes by sanding, high-pressure wash or sandblasting.
For best cleaning and brightening of exterior wood use TimberSaver
and TimberBrite following manufacturer's directions. Superior
penetration will be obtained if the surface of the wood is sprayed
with clean water and allowed to dry until just slightly damp
before applying TimberSaver. Apply TimberSaver only when temperatures
exceed 40 degrees F. Do not apply to frozen wood.
SOLUTION: Prepare a 10% solution by mixing 1 pound of
TimberSaver per gallon of water. Add water to approximately 80%
of final solution volume to mixing container. With agitation
slowly add appropriate quantity of TimberSaver (1 pound equals
one loosely packed 32-oz. container). Add the remaining water
volume and mix until powder is completely dissolved. Solution
is stable as long as it remains covered to prevent evaporation.
Brushing and Spraying: Apply TimberSaver solution at a
rate of 1 gallon per 200 sq. ft. to all accessible surfaces until
thoroughly wetted. Apply a second coat 4 to 24 hours later. Thoroughly
saturate cut ends of wood.
Dipping: Immerse logs, lumber or siding for 10 minutes
into a 10% solution of TimberSaver. Let excess solution drain
back into tank. Repeat dip treatment 24 hours later. Keep wood
dry until a water repellent wood finish, such as DEFY
is applied.
Flooding: TimberSaver solution may be applied by pouring
into holes or log kerfs. Fill holes with 10% solution and let
soak for 1-2 days until wood has absorbed TimberSaver. Then spray
or brush exterior surfaces as above.
Note: Solution run-off from vertical walls, etc. should
be contained with polyethylene film or equivalent shaped to form
a catch basin, which will prevent injury to nearby foliage. Trapped
liquid can then be collected and reused.
